A marine search for four men, missing off the West Australia coast, has ended in tragedy after police revealed a body was found west of Garden Island.
About 1.30pm on Friday, searchers located the deceased person.
A WA Police spokeswoman said the body was yet to be identified and further inquiries would need to be carried out by the Coronial Investigation Unit.
The widescale marine search for the fishermen, which included a Coodanup man and his family, started on Thursday.
Police have confirmed the men missing are a 50-year-old Coodanup boat owner, his brother, his 24-year-old son and a family friend.
The alarm was raised at 9pm on Thursday, after the quartet did not return home from a fishing trip.
The 5.5 metre vessel is believed to have left Cockburn Sound on Wednesday evening, with the men planning to go fishing at Rottnest Island.
Fremantle-based Water Police Coordination Centre, who are leading the search, will continue to locate the missing men with support from three helicopters, nine vessels and an AMSA plane.
Water Police, Volunteer Sea Rescue groups, Rottnest Rangers and local Police conducted overnight searches for the vessel without success.
The Mandurah Volunteer Marine Rescue Group also confirmed they’re helping to locate the missing men.
