PFNL finals: Tigers women make history, take out competition’s first premiership

Just two weeks separated from when they were kept goalless by the Falcons, the Tigers pulled off a miraculous turnaround to take home a 4.3 (27) to 8.7 (55) win to stamp themselves at the top of the honour boards.

Making individual history was Jena Daniel as she took out the best-on-ground medal following a scintillating four quarters that saw her snare a pair of goals and play a key role in the outcome of the match.

She was hard at work early in the match, but it was South Mandurah that drew first blood when Brianna Moyes nailed a nice goal to get the scoreboard ticking over.

The Falcons looked ready to keep their hot form rolling when they peppered the Pinjarra defence with several behinds, but Pinjarra got the response they were searching for with their first goal putting them back into the contest.

By quarter time the Tigers led by four points, and from there they assumed control of the play.

A goal to Jessica Skwirowski saw them leading by 15 before Charlee Fairclough hit back for the Falcons, but Daniel kicked truly to see her team lead by 16 points at half time.

April McPherson was brilliant for Souths and nailed a goal early in the second half to give them hope.

She followed up with another later in the term but majors to Lisa Dubberlin and Kara Wogan-Browne put the Falcons’ comeback hopes on hold.

The fourth term belonged to Pinjarra as they kept South Mandurah scoreless through it, ending the game as the inaugural premiers.
