Famous musician John Butler has filmed his latest video in Pinjarra – paying homage to his upbringing.
Butler lived in the area during his young adult-years from 11 to 20-years-old just before he shot to stardom with his music career.
Butler shared a few thoughts on the video Just Call recently on the John Butler Trio Facebook page.
The video is filmed from a drone and begins with Butler skateboarding on a street alongside the Murray River.
He walks to the river and climbs a tree to the top with the vision highlighting the beautiful Australian landscape and natural beauty of the Peel region.
Butler said the video was one of his favourites and he loved the region.
He said the video was “so simple yet fairly complex to get just right”.
“I did the jump (in the water) about six times on a winters day...” Butler said in the Facebook post.
“I grew up on this river and it became one of my best friends.
“I scurfed it, swam it, jumped outta trees into it, explored abandoned farm houses along her banks and generally lived out a Huckleberry Finn existence on this river.”
Butler said it was a “blessed wonderland”.
“I’m a lucky man to have had this country teach me and hold me through the ups and downs of my formative years,” he said.
Butler said the location was “legendary” to Pinjarra locals.
Just Call is a love-song about meeting his partner Danielle Caruana, who is also a musician who goes by Mama Kin.
He played a free gig for his home-grown fans in April at Cantwell Park, under the Pinjarra suspension bridge.
The event, organised by Pinjarra Connect, featured an energised Butler belting out tunes and strumming his guitar to more than 1500 people.
