A Mandurah business owner has been left reeling after a ram raid on his shopfront in the early hours of Monday morning, with thieves stealing about $8,000 worth of motorbikes and apparel.
Fifth Element Kawasaki dealer principal Paul Mansfield said he received a security call at 1.10am to alert him to the incident.
When he arrived at his business on Reserve Drive, he discovered three bikes, equipment and apparel had been taken.
“From what I can see they’ve used one car to do the actual ram raid and then backed a ute in,” Mr Mansfield said.
“They’ve stolen helmets, damaged a heap of stuff and taken three bikes – even my seven-year-old’s bike.
“They tried to take my race bike but they’ve realised it is chained up so they’ve just dropped it.
“They have damaged lots of bikes. I store collectables – they smashed the tank on a 1949 bike – it is stuff you just aren’t going to be able to get any more.”
The three bikes taken were a 2017 KLX110, a 1996 CR80 and a 1989 KX80.
Mr Mansfield said he had insurance but would have to pay excess on some of the stolen or damaged items.
“It is hard enough in the current economy and then you get this as well,” he said.
“It is hard at the moment and then they do this to you – it doesn’t make it any easier.
“I’ll just have to cop it.
“I’ve been here for eight-and-a-half years and this is probably the sixth time it has happened.”
Mandurah Police Detective Sergeant Rob Wilson said the vehicle in question, a silver Nissan Navara Utility, was sighted on a number of occasions after the incident and officers unsuccessfully tried to intercept it.
The vehicle was later discovered burned out in Port Kennedy.
Mr Mansfield said Fifth Element Kawasaki remained open, despite damage to the shopfront.
Anyone with information on the incident should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 330 000 or make a report online.
