Pinjarra’s colts set up what promises to be an epic grand final against Rockingham when they took down South Mandurah with a 47-point victory in the preliminary round at Parnell Street Oval on Saturday.
The Falcons – who have won the previous two colts premierships – gave a spirited fight in the final quarter but goalless terms across the second and third hurt them as the Tigers came away with a 12.9 (81) to 4.10 (34) win.
Ryan Paterson put in an outstanding performance for Pinjarra and helped his side get the jump early when they piled up four goals to South Mandurah’s two in the opening term, as the Tigers took a 13-point buffer into the first break.
They added another goal onto that lead coming off Paterson’s boot in the second, but it was in the third that they took control.
Dylan Rozman, Craig Milward, Chad Philpott and Nixon Purser all found the goals in the term, while the Falcons went without a major as Pinjarra assumed a 41-point lead at the final break.
South Mandurah managed to find their fair share of the play with Jaydon Cullen and Lloyd Howe putting in solid efforts, but struggled to convert it to scoreboard pressure until the fourth quarter saw them snare a pair of goals through Mitch Doney and Reegan Davis.
Those majors did little to phase the Tigers though, as they pitched in another three goals to finish the game with a 47-point win.
The victory moves Pinjarra on to a grand final against the undefeated Rockingham, which looms as a thriller given just two points separated the two squads in the semi finals.
