Mandurah grommet Maverick Wilson has continued his winning ways in the water taking out first place at the 11th annual Billabong Parkos Grom Stomp on a beautiful Spring day at Ann Street Reef in Currimundi, Queensland over the weekend.
The young star was one of eight champions crowned on the day, taking out the under 10s division title ahead of Will Martin (Coffs Harbour, NSW), Sid Englert (Gracetown, WA) and Max McGillvray (Evans Head, NSW) respectively.
Clean 1-2ft waves greeted the grommets, with Maverick taking full advantage of them to steer his way to another big win.
He wasn’t the only local surfer to shine at the event national event, with Dawesville’s Macklin Flynn coming in fourth in the under 12s competition.
The duo have been two of Mandurah’s brightest young stars on the surfing scene, winning several state and national events between them over the past two years.
Macklin and his younger brother Ace will now prepare for the 2018 Hurley BL’s Blast Off tournament, to be held in New South Wales this October.
