Local junior golfer Kathryn Norris will be the first female ever to play in the Mandurah Steelscene Amateur at Mandurah Country Club, WA’s premier men’s national amateur ranking event.
Norris, 17, has received a sponsor’s invite from Gary James, Steelscene owner, to play in the prestigious tournament which runs from September 8-10, following a great year during which she has made history by becoming the first golfer to hold all four major WA junior girls titles at the same time.
Last November the up-and-coming star won the WA State Junior Girls championship for the second time in three years, in March she completed a hatrick of wins for the Nedlands Junior Masters title and followed this up in July by winning the Callaway Junior Championship and the Drummond Golf 54-Hole Tournament for an unprecedented fourth consecutive year.
Norris is also the current South Australian Junior Masters champion and has been a regular member of the junior girls and ladies state teams since her first selection as a junior in 2014.
The young prodigy graduates school this year and turns 18 in November, and aims to continue to compete as an amateur at open age events across Australia and overseas during 2019.
“I’m reaching the end of my time as a junior competitor with just a couple of national junior events to go,” she said.
“I’ve had so many amazing experiences.
“I feel both fortunate and very proud to have represented WA and Australia. I’m really looking forward to the challenge of competing against the men off blue tees and I’m very excited about the year ahead.”
