Throwback Thursday – 10 years ago in the Mandurah Mail | Photos, August 28, 2008

An upcoming state election dominated the front pages of the Mandurah Mail 10 years ago, while plenty of footy and soccer action was splayed out on the back.

Local politicians such as Kim Hames and David Templeman were running for their seats, while Murray Cowper defended his successfully.

Mandurah also welcomed several newborns to the world, while local sailing icon Rolly Tasker – who trained in the city’s waterways – reflected on the 50 years that had passed since he won the World Sailing Championships in Austria.

A few of our local students got to soak up the ways of a different culture in their trip to Japan, while couple Louis and Valerie Smith celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Making sporting news in Mandurah, Marion Blair was appointed to the post of director with Peel Thunder while Baldivis knocked off Rockingham in the Peel Football League.
