Mandurah residents have responded in droves to the City of Mandurah’s latest survey that invited the community to help shape the future for the City Centre Waterfront.
Throughout April and May, the City of Mandurah invited the public to provide an insight into what they want to the centre of the city to look like.
This area includes the Eastern and Western Foreshore Reserves, including to the north and south of the bridge, under the bridge and Hall Park.
The aim of the survey was for the local government to get to know what their community loved about these spaces and to collect ideas to improve them.

Organisers also wanted some direction on what areas to prioritise in, stating that not everything could be done at once.
City of Mandurah used a range of techniques to collect public feedback.
These included advertisements in the local paper asking people to comment, meetings with key stakeholder groups, radio ads, Facebook posts, information sessions on-site on the Eastern and Western Foreshores, the libraries, community centres and the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre.
The City of Mandurah received over 500 written or verbal responses from 969 contributors.
Many of responses highlight aspects of the current foreshore areas.
A common sentiment was that the Western Foreshore was “tired, underutilised and required upgrades”.
The Visitors Centre Boardwalk area was identified as needing attention because it has been where many tourists first arrive at Mandurah.
Another issue identified was the Smart Street Mall area.
A key comment was that the City of Mandurah needed to find a way to make it more inviting and better connected to the foreshore.
There was also support for providing more facilities and activities for the community’s young people.
Some of the more creative ideas included creating a fish breeding area on the waterfront, an underwater sculpture dive area, a wave pool, and a water cinema.
The next steps are working with the community reference group and stakeholders to set priority areas for upgrades and develop concepts for these areas.
