The Peel Football and Netball League will hold its first ever twilight grand final after confirming the fixture for this year’s premiership game on Thursday.
The league is also set to continue hosting its big dance on a Saturday, following on from the success of last year’s inaugural Saturday finale, while the PFNL will also hold its first ever women’s grand final on the day.
Confirmation on the dates and times comes after the WAFL announced yesterday it would hold its grand final at Optus Stadium on Sunday, September 23.
PFNL general manager Geoff Hiller said it was an exciting time for the league.
“It’s obviously exciting in more ways than one – to have our first ever women’s grand final will be a great step forward, and we’re anticipating success with the twilight fixture for the league game,” he said.
“We received great feedback last year about the games being held on a Saturday, and we’re happy that’s going to continue.
“It allows people the chance to watch their local league on the Saturday and still head to the WAFL’s grand final the next day.”
In a pre-season survey of the league’s nine coaches carried out by the Mandurah Mail, all said they preferred the Saturday grand final.
All PFNL grand finals will be held at Bendigo Bank Stadium on Saturday, September 22.
