Young woman speaks out on Mandurah carjacking assault | VIDEO

Tamryn Parkes said she was assaulted for ten-minutes by two boys, believed to be teenagers, after agreeing to drop them home following a Golden Bay house party, on Saturday night.

“I couldn’t believe a couple of boys could be so violent after I try to do a good thing,” she said.

“I was chocked, kicked in the stomach a number of times, scratched...pretty much everything you could do.

“I wasn’t trying to provoke anything, I was just trying to get my keys back.”

Tamryn said she was not familiar with too many people at the party. 

“A couple of boys approached me – a Caucasian male and an African male, around 17 to 19,” she said. 

She said the boys kept asking her for a lift home. After sometime, Tamryn agreed, and said she would return to pick up her other friend who wanted to stay at the house a while longer.

Tamryn said the car ride was initially fine –  one boy was in the front passenger seat and the other was in the back.

The boys asked Tamryn to pull over near Lakelands Shopping Centre. 

“I thought we were at their house,” she said. 

Tamryn said a vicious ten-minute assault followed.

Tamryn said the boy in the passenger seat punched her in the throat, causing her head to smash into the side-window. 

She was then choked, before one of the offenders took her keys and ran down the road.

Tamryn said she chased him down the road to get them back.

“The assault continued more on the street,” she said.

She said one of the boys was laughing throughout the attack.

They managed to get her keys back, and stole her car.

She sought help at a nearby home and the police were called. 

Police found the abandoned car with her bag and phone still inside, on Sunday morning. 

Tamryn said the offenders could have left the belongings out of fear, because she had thrown one of their Smart Rider cards out of the car window during the assault. 

Tamryn said she did not feel safe living in Mandurah and would be moving to Fremantle next year. 

“This has sealed the deal,” she said. “I don’t feel safe here at all. There are too many drug addicts...it’s called ‘Methandrah’ for a reason.”

The registered nurse, who works two other jobs, said she would not be giving out lifts anymore. 

“I have worked since I was 12-years-old...these boys have probably never had a job,” she said. 

“I just want them to know that they are not going to get away with it.”

A Police Media spokeswoman said one 16-year-old boy had been charged with aggravated robbery and stealing a motor vehicle.

He will appear in the Mandurah Children’s Court on September 10. 

Detectives would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity between 1.15am and 1.40am.
