A recent Shire of Murray tree planting initiative has seen over 10,000 trees planted at various locations through the district.
The most recent of the planting events took place on Tuesday August 14, at George Brook Reserve in Ravenswood, with students from Dwellingup, Carcoola, North Dandalup and Riverside Primary Schools.
A further three events were held with North Dandalup Primary School students, Pinjarra Primary School, Peel Language Development School and John Tonkin College.
Shire President David Bolt said the success of the initiative was attributed to the 400 plus willing participants from local and visiting schools.
“Participants displayed a keen interest in environmental conservation and sustainability and gained a deeper understanding of the complexity and importance of our environment, thanks to the dedicated representatives of our partner organisations,” he said.
The four planting events transpired through respective partnerships with Landcare, Peel Harvey Biosecurity Group, Million Trees, Peel Branch and Greening Australia, with funding from MZI Resources and Alcoa.
