South Mandurah held onto their perch atop the Peel Football and Netball League Women’s ladder with an impressive win over a gutsy Pinjarra outfit at Falcon Oval on Sunday morning.
The Falcons flew into the game on the back of a booming win over Baldivis and were able to keep their run of hot form alive with a big third quarter helping them to a 6.7 (43) to 3.2 (20) win in front of a home crowd.
The league’s top two sides played out a neck-and-neck first half, with Pinjarra leading by a solitary point at quarter time before the Falcons assumed a two-point lead at the long break.
But it was all Southies coming out of half time, as the Pinjarra women struggled to keep pace with their hosts.
The Falcons tacked two majors onto their score while keeping the Tigers goalless throughout the third term, giving them a 15-point advantage heading into the final quarter.
It was a lead that Pinjarra would find unassailable, as they went goalless again in the fourth while South Mandurah piled on another major to run out 23-point victors.
Brianna Moyes proved to be the deciding factor in the game with her three goals playing a key role for the Falcons.
Kasey-Jane Edwards pitched in with two more while Rakita Bennell nailed one.
Moyes’ efforts saw her get the nod from coach Solomon Daw as best afield, with Bennell and Caitlyn Rintoul not far behind.
Baldivis v Dwellingup
The Brumbies kept their hopes of a top-two finish alive with a crushing win over Dwellingup on Saturday.
Skye Roberts starred with a stunning seven-goal bag, buoying her side to the 16.24 (120) to nil win.
Roberts was a force dominating the forward 50m arch at Baldivis Oval across the four quarters, as she helped her side to an early lead over the Razorbacks.
A six-goal first term helped the Brumbies jump out of the blocks to a 41-point lead at the first break, with Kerrilee Brown and Amber-Lee Maria dominating around the ground.
By half time Baldivis led by 73, and their stampede didn’t stop until they ended the game 120 points ahead of the scoreless Dwellingup outfit.
Alongside Roberts’ seven, Sheila Wager managed three goals while Sarah Rhodes snared a pair of her own.
The victory keeps Baldivis within reach of a top-two finish, but they will need everything to go right in their final two games if they are to leapfrog Pinjarra.
