Relief as Pinjarra and Waroona community centres funding to continue

The Government announced earlier this year that funding for the community assets was to be ceased, with the cuts to be implemented by July 2019.

However, the decision has today been reversed – much to the delight of those that use CRCs.

Minister for Regional Development Alannah MacTiernan said after reviewing the program “it is clear CRC funding should continue”. 

"We will continue to fully fund CRCs to the tune of $13 million per year, ensuring CRCs can deliver important services to regional communities,” she said.

"We want to see the CRC program strengthened, with a real focus on getting the most out of the traineeship program to drive training opportunities across regional WA."

Murray-Wellington MP Robyn Clarke said there were five CRCs in her electorate that would be impacted by the change of heart.

“I am pleased that the Pinjarra, Waroona, Yarloop, Harvey and Brunswick Junction CRCs will continue to be fully funded and be able to continue to deliver important services to our community,” she said.

“I have know how important the CRCs are to our regional communities and I appreciate the valuable services they offer to the community.

“Strengthening the traineeship program that CRCs offer is important to ensuring young people in the regions gain the skills needed to gain meaningful employment.

“I look forward to continuing to work with our local CRCs.”
