Mandurah MLA David Templeman has paid homage to the “invaluable service” the region’s marine rescue volunteers contribute to our community.
The local MP attended the Mandurah Volunteer Marine Rescue’s annual general meeting on Tuesday and presented the group with a $1000 cheque, which was raised during his annual variety show.
Mr Templeman, who is the group’s long-term patron, said the State Government understood the importance of Mandurah’s volunteers.
“The $19 million increase by the McGowan Government over four years is a direct acknowledgement of the incredibly important and valued work the state’s Volunteer Marine Rescue Groups do along our coast.” he said.
“These magnificent volunteers provide an invaluable service to the people of Mandurah, the Peel region and visitors to our waterways.
“Last financial year they conducted over 300 rescues and recoveries, quite often in very challenging and dangerous waters.
“They maintain a radio contact system 365 days of the year and participate in numerous community events throughout the year.”
Mr Templeman said he “strongly supported” the group’s application for State Government funding for a range of maintenance needs at their facility in the Mandurah Ocean Marina.
At the AGM, John Blay was appointed as the group’s commander for the 2018/19 year and recognised with an award, acknowledging his service of over 25 years.
