Government grants to protect Mandurah coastline

As part of the Coastal Adaptation Protection Grant Program, Mandurah will receive $20,000 for Acoustic Wave and Current  devices and wave buoy data collection review and analysis.

This involves the documentation and analysis of oceanographic datasets collected from 2013 to 2018. 

A second grant of $75,000 has been awarded through the Coastal Management Plan Assistance Program, which will be used in the City’s coastal hazard risk management and adaptation planning project.

Mandurah MLA David Templeman said a total of 45 projects across the State would share in over $1.6 million courtesy of the two grant programs.

“The State Government is proud to continue to support the vast and challenging work undertaken by local coastal managers, community groups and countless volunteers, to protect and maintain this vulnerable asset,” he said.

“Working in partnership with local coastal managers to address management issues and protect the WA coastline provides significant benefits to the State and the community.

“We all love to live and relax on our coastline and it is a big part of the attraction to tourists visiting our State.

“Our coastline is an important source of recreation in Mandurah and I’m pleased that the City of Mandurah will receive grant funding to ensure its ongoing protection and care.”

City of Mandurah mayor Rhys Williams was grateful for the financial assistance.

“The City of Mandurah has such an amazing environment, in particular our 70km+ of coastline,” he said. 

“We are committed to protecting this community asset and this will certainly help us with this important mission.”
