Mandurah Seniors and Community Centre members are now able to access free chiropractic services.
Every Wednesday morning final year Murdoch University chiropractic students will visit the centre to gain practical experience.
Centre coordinator Lisa Gardiner said about 20 seniors receive a free consultation every Wednesday.
“It’s been great having the students here, they have helped fix pain in my hip,” Halls Head resident Karen, (who withheld her last name) said.
“We are very lucky to have them here and we appreciate it.”
One of the reasons the students come to the centre is to be able to practice their skills on a different demographic.
“We wanted an older demographic with a variety of conditions,” Murdoch University supervising clinician Dominque Losco said.
“It is also important that our students learn to communicate with people who are a bit older.”
The program has been so successful that there is a plan to extend it by adding another day, perhaps a Monday, but this will not happen until late November.
Mandurah chief executive Mark Newman said the Mandurah Seniors and Community Centre was a good example of how the City provides services to everyone in the community.
“The Seniors Community Centre has been a fantastic success, it now has over 2000 members making it one of the biggest in the state,” Mr Newman said.
“Services that members can access include cut price meals, sporting events, hairdressing, library services and much much more.”
