Recfishwest, along with help from the Peel region community, will release thousands of trout into the Drakesbrook Weir at this year’s TroutFest.
The event – which will be held on Saturday, September 1 – will see participants hand releasing trout into the weir working towards improving habitat and fish stocks which build better environments that support fishing.
Last year’s release was the first freshwater community stocking event and the organisation is following on from that success with bigger plans this time around.
Recfishwest chief Dr Andrew Rowland will be on deck for the event, which is part of a carefully managed stocking program that has created a sustainable, recreational fishery in the region, funded by freshwater fishing licence revenue.
The day will also include fishing tuition for all ages, fly fishing demonstrations and freshwater tackle and rigging information.
TroutFest will kick off at the weir on Weir Road, Waroona, at 10am and wrap up at 1.30pm.
