The annual ball Paediatric Oncology Gold Ball will be held in September, raising money for Mandurah girl Skye Desmond (9) who was diagnosed with cancer in 2017.
In its third year, the event is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for paediatric oncology and for the families, like Skyes, who travel several times to the hospital every week.
Co-organiser Jessica Lim said they had chosen to sponsor Skye’s family this year and acknowledge their journey.

“We will be celebrating Skye and her family,” she said.
“Skye was diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma back in 2017.
“She is currently undergoing immunotherapy and has already had chemotherapy and megatherapy, often keeping her in hospital for weeks at a time.
“In the case of the Desmond family, they have had to take time off work for trips from Mandurah to the Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) for Skye’s treatment.
“It can certainly take a financial toll.”
The event will be held on September 1, at the Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle.
Ms Lim said a portion of the funds raised would be donated to the PCH Foundation, to fund research and provide equipment required to assist in the ongoing treatment of children with cancer.
“Every dollar brings us one step closer to a cure,” she said.
