Two Mandurah surfers have etched their names onto Western Australia’s state championship honour roll after an epic conclusion to the HIF WA Longboard Titles in Denmark.
Mandurah Longboard Club members Zali Corry and Jacob McGivor were very deserving winners of junior state championships after putting forth impressive performances at the event.
Denmark’s secluded and scenic coastline was the ideal backdrop for some of WA’s best longboarders, who relished the opportunity to compete in clean and consistent waves at Parry’s Beach.
After an exciting opening event in Yallingup in February, Denmark delivered a fantastic finish with a total of 14 divisions contested over three days of competition.
Crystal clear water, clean conditions and groomed peaks in the two to three feet (1.5 metre) range provided the perfect canvas for a great display of traditional and high performance longboard manoeuvres.
Using his repertoire of powerful rail turns and graceful footwork, Jacob was at his devastating best.
Zali was an impressive performer in Denmark and over the two state rounds surfed with poise and precision.
“I'd like to congratulate our junior state champions, not only are they hard workers they are great role models for all our junior athletes and club members,” Mandurah Longboard Club president Allan Brooks said.
