Six goals from Daniel Wilson helped Centrals cement their place as the competition’s most in-form team heading into the two-week bye, as the spearhead led the Blues to a hefty win over Halls Head on Saturday afternoon.
Wilson’s bag earned him top best afield votes with the forward on song as Centrals’ blazing nine-goal first quarter paved their way to a 7.6 (48) to 19.10 (124) win over the Lightning.
The Blues opened with a bang, galloping out to a 40-point lead at quarter time on the back of an accurate and damaging first quarter.
They nailed nine majors in the opening term while keeping the home side to just two, and their superiority continued with a seven goal to two second quarter.
By half time the Blues had well and truly stunned the Lightning to lead by a whopping 73 points, and even a quiet second half couldn’t stop them from storming to a win.
Halls Head managed to restrict Centrals to just three goals in the final two quarters, an impressive turnaround from a first half that saw them concede 16 majors.
But the Lightning were only able to score three goals themselves, allowing Centrals to keep their percentage-boosting margin in tact.
Toby Gianatti finished with two goals on the day in yet another impressive performance for the prolific midfielder, while Callum Collard (four goals) and Ryan Henley (three) continued their strong form in front of the sticks.
Tyson Phillips was among the best for a battling Halls Head outfit, while Thomas Smith and Travis Sexton put forth strong outings.
The victory is Centrals’ fourth straight and has them entering the break a game and a chunk of percentage clear in fourth spot, just four premiership points behind Rockingham in third.
