The Baldivis Brumbies women brought Pinjarra’s unbeaten run to a grinding halt when they upset the Tigers in front of a home crowd on Saturday afternoon.
Kerrilee Brown’s best afield performance was the Brumbies’ barometer all day long, as she continuously repelled the Tigers’ attacks to help her side to a 6.2 (38) to 4.3 (27) win.
It was a last-minute dash that saw Baldivis to victory, as coach Jaime McGillivray’s outfit conjured five of the final six majors in a contest that seemed well and truly in Pinjarra’s control.
Spurred on by Brown’s magnificent effort the Brumbies defied the odds with three final quarter goals, capped off by Joanne Jacobs’ game-clinching major.
But the home side was the slower to start with Tiger Lisa Dubberlin putting the first through the sticks for the day.
A snap around the body from Tia Webb helped level the scores, but Pinjarra’s Jesse Salter and Jena Daniel were on fire in the middle of the ground.
Their efforts continued in the second quarter, where Hayley Cooper and Dubberlin were able to convert from their hard work, extending the Tigers’ advantage to 12 points at the half time break.
Midway through the third quarter it looked like Pinjarra was certain to remain unbeaten.
The Tigers were well and truly in control of the ball but Brown’s defensive efforts kept the damage away from the scoreboard for her Brumbies, and Keely Clapton’s goal sparked a game-winning run up the other end.
Clapton’s successful set shot was followed by another to Webb, with a late point after the siren ensuring sides would enter three quarter time level.
The visitors appeared to have the response they needed when Abby Irvine slotted the first of the fourth, but it was all downhill from there.
Baldivis netted two the space of two minutes to snatch the lead, with Jacobs’ sealer putting the icing on the cake late.
The result dishes Pinjarra their first loss on the season, while Baldivis move into a strong position in second on the table.
