Ocean Road Primary School teacher Joanne Harman has been shortlisted for the prestigious national award, to be announced in November.
Ms Harman was also named a finalist for the Peel ESTEAM Champion of the Year Award, recognising individual advocates of STEM.
She was nominated for the awards by media officer Rebecca Beatty and principal Dean Finlay, for initiating and establishing a whole school science program.

The Prime Minister’s prize website states each nominee was an inspirational teacher who had made an outstanding contribution to science, mathematics or technology education.
“Teachers have a fundamental role in nurturing an interest in science, technology and mathematics in Australia’s youth,” the website states.
Ms Harman thanked the school in allowing her to succeed.
“I feel very fortunate to have been nominated and then to be shortlisted on both of these awards,” she said.
“We have a forward-thinking principal who has helped in implementing best practice STEM education, at the school.”
The Peel ESTEAM awards night will be on Thursday, June 28 at Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah.
