Newcastle's popular Edwards Bar, co-owned by Silverchair's Chris Joannou, has been destroyed by fire.
Twelve fire trucks and 50 firefighters raced to the bar in the centre of the city in the early hours of Thursday and managed to contain the blaze, but the building was destroyed.
Three people self-evacuated and there were no injuries, Fire & Rescue spokesman Norman Buckley told AAP.
There was no obvious cause for the blaze and fire investigators will spend Thursday at the venue, sifting through rubble, he said.
The popular venue was converted from a laundromat.
