Pinjarra continued their dominance of the Peel Football and Netball League’s inaugural women’s season when they toppled South Mandurah with a 59-point win on Friday night.
The Tigers made it a perfect four wins from their first four games with an 11.12 (78) to 2.7 (19) victory over the Falcons, keeping them a game clear of Baldivis who reside in second.
South Mandurah started the game well, holding the powerhouse Pinjarra to just two goals in the opening term.
But while their first quarter defence was a miniature victory, Souths struggled to points on the board up their end and went into the first break trailing by 14 points.
Pinjarra got into a rhythm in the second.
With Jesse Salter’s best afield performance giving her team a big boost, the Tigers were able to pile on four goals while keeping a gutsy South Mandurah to one.
Their 32-point lead at half time was stretched to an unassailable 57 points at the final break, but the Falcons will take heart from a fourth quarter that saw them put up plenty of fight.
Souths restricted Pinjarra to just two goals in the final term while booting one of their own, minimising the damage.
Lisa Dubberlin starred for the Tigers with four majors, while Hayley Cooper (three) and Salter (two) were among the scorers.
Leticia Le Marche and Kasey-Jane Edwards kicked the Falcons’ goals.
Dwellingup v Baldivis
It was a dour day for the Razorbacks as Baldivis kept them scoreless and notched a 4.10 (34) to 0.0 (0) win at the Dwellingup Recreation Reserve on Sunday.
Phoebe McSpadden shone as the Brumbies overcame a sluggish start to take the victory.
Wet conditions saw neither side manage a goal in the opening term with a Baldivis behind the only score.
The guests were able to break the drought in the second term with their first major leading them to a nine-point buffer at half time, and another in the third giving them a 19-point edge at the final break.
Sarah Rhodes and Karis Retallack piled on goals in the fourth as the Brumbies blinched a 34-point victory, keeping them in second spot with a 3-1 record.
Tenieka Hill was among the winners’ best players, while Maryanne Mills was productive for Dwellingup.
Teams now head into a bye-week with round five looming a fortnight away.
The Brumbies will face the hot-to-trot Tigers when they return, while South Mandurah host Dwellingup at Falcon Oval.
