Pinjarra’s netball squad moved two games clear of Rockingham with a narrow win over the weekend.
The second-placed Tigers went into the match with Rockingham hot on their heels in third place, but the visitors cane breathe a little easier now after spacing out a two-game gap thanks to an eight-point win.
Pinjarra was the slower starter of the two, with the Rams looking the goods after jumping out to a five-point lead at the end of the first quarter.
By half time that lead stood at six, with Pinjarra facing an upset and possibly being hauled out of second place.
But the Tigers rallied back into the fold, keeping Rockingham to just four goals in the third quarter to take a lead of two into the fourth, where they would go on to claim a 45-37 win.
The win keeps Pinjarra tied with Waroona (who occupy top spot) on a 6-1 record.
The Demons proved far too much for Centrals over the weekend, rallying behind Donnelle Wallam’s 64 goals as they took down the Blues 74-43.
Waroona had already doubled Centrals’ score at half time, and the hefty win keeps them atop the table.
Meanwhile South Mandurah, who make up the final spot in the top four, got back to their winning ways with a comfortably victory over the cross-town rival Mustangs.
The Falcons stormed out of the gates and kept up their pace the whole way through on their way to a 65-26 victory.
Megan Nowotny starred playing out of position with 29 goals, while first-gamer Sophie Clancy scored 17.
Baldivis sits just a game behind South Mandurah in fifth position after they toppled Halls Head 51-43.
Reserves
Rockingham stretched their unbeaten run to seven games in the reserves when they overcame Pinjarra 52-37.
The Rams led the whole way, fending off a spirited challenge from the Tigers to finish 15-point victors in a result that keeps them a game above South Mandurah’s reserves.
The Falcons toppled Mandurah 67-45 on the back of Kameron Bazzo’s 37 goals, moving them to a 6-1 record in second place.
Waroona also took a sizable victory with a 69-19 win over Centrals, while Baldivis topped Halls Head 51-33.
Open
Halls Head, South Mandurah and Rockingham all remain equal atop the open ladder sharing 6-1 records after all three picked up wins in round seven.
The Lightning were emphatic in their 68-31 drubbing of Baldivis, with consistent scoring across all quarters giving them the edge.
Meanwhile South Mandurah dominated the Mustangs 72-20, and a hot start defensively helped Rockingham cruise past Pinjarra 52-20.
Waroona sits just outside the top four in fifth spot after beating Centrals 43-24.
