Police have urged business owners to be vigilant when using EFTPOS machines after a recent spate of fraudulent transactions.
Police issued a warning on June 11, after retail stores throughout the metropolitan area and in regional districts close to Perth were hit with a credit card scam.
It has been reported to police that a person will purchase a number of items from the store and manually enter the credit card details without necessarily having the actual credit card with them.
Police suggest that businesses check the merchant copy of their receipt, in particular, for letter codes “M” “K” and “H” which show a manual transaction has occurred.
“If you are unsure of the letter codes or have concerns about current transactions, please contact your financial institution in the first instance,” WA police told business owners.
“Alternatively, if you believe your business has been used for fraudulent transactions, please report to police on 131 444.”
