Canning MP Andrew Hastie’s Shakespeare Competition is on again.
“The Canning Shakespeare Competition is an opportunity for students to push themselves, try something new, and discover the riches of our most influential poet and playwright,” he said.
“Shakespeare’s work has been incredibly influential on our language and culture.
“The Canning Shakespeare Competition is about celebrating that contribution, and passing it on to the next generation.”
Year 10 to 12 students living in the Canning electorate are invited to enter a video performance of a monologue from one of Shakespeare's works.
Monologues must be a maximum of 2.5 minutes long, performed in character and from memory.
Submissions can be submitted to the office of Andrew Hastie and are due in by 5pm, June 22
Ten finalists will be selected to perform their monologue on July 21 at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
This year’s judges include WAAPA’s head of acting Glenda Linscott.
This year there are three prizes to be won.
- First place: $1,000 and two tickets to Bell Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.
- Second place: $750 and two tickets to the Bell Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.
- Third place: $500 and two tickets to the Bell Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar.
