The Peel Thunderbirds will be looking to keep their hot form through the first eight rounds of the season alive when they return to action against Perth on the back of a general bye this Sunday.
The Thunderbirds’ league team has been dominant on the WA Women’s Football League season so far, collecting a healthy seven wins from their opening eight games, with their only loss coming to league leaders East Fremantle.
But their test this week lies in continuing that dominance, as they take on the 1-7 Perth Angels in front of a home crowd at Bendigo Bank Stadium.
Peel coach Mark Fenton said his side would need to bring a strong mindset to the game, to avoid any potential upset.
“Coming off a bye we just want the girls to be raring to go and to bring a really good attitude to the game,” he said.
“They’re obviously really keen to get back into action so hopefully we can turn that energy into a win.”
A win would be further validation of Peel’s finals credentials, as they currently sit second on the ladder with a two-game gap over West Perth and the perennial powerhouse Swan Districts.
Meanwhile, Peel’s reserves and youth girls will look to continue their outstanding unbeaten runs with both sitting atop their respective ladders without a loss.
The reserves sit two games clear ahead of East Fremantle while the youth girls boast a mind-boggling percentage of 1141.67 through their first eight games.
Deborah Phillips (reserves) and Shantae Freeman (youth girls) will both celebrate their 50th games over the weekend, while the Thunderbirds will also be holding their 2018 100 Club Sponsors Day.
The youth girls kick off the day with their game at 10.30am, succeeded by the reserves (12pm) and the league (2pm).
