The final event of the WA Stand Up Paddle (SUP) Titles presented by SunSmart will conclude this weekend in Mandurah with strong winds and large surf set to challenge some of WA’s very best SUP surfers.
After a sensational opening event on Rottnest Island in early May, Mandurah will provide competitors a chance to surf a variety of different breaks as they aim to qualify for the 2018 Australian SUP Titles to be held in Currumbin, QLD in November.
The event will be an exciting exhibition of surfing’s newest discipline with WA producing some of the best SUP riders in the country.
Avalon Point will be the prime event location, with the large bay handling a wide range of conditions and the long running left handers providing great scoring opportunity.
“The waterways and waves around Mandurah are ideal for stand up paddleboarding,” Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said.
“Despite a tricky forecast we look forward to crowing our 2018 State SUP Champions along the Peel coastline.”
Competitors from right across WA will line up in a diverse range of divisions including open men, open women, under 18 juniors, over 40 men, over 40 women and over 50 Men.
After some great results on Rottnest Island, recent form points towards brothers Rick and Jake Jakovich (Gracetown), Peter Tomsett (Greenwood) as well as Crawford Only (Spearwood) to be the ones to watch in the blue-ribbon open men’s divisions.
While Jessica Waters (Dunsborough), Scott McKercher (Margaret River), Chris Twomey (Duncraig) and Mike Galvin (Cottesloe) will also be chasing success in Mandurah this weekend.
Surfing WA will be streaming live heat scores and results from the event.
