A young Pinjarra trainee has won a gold medal in the Worldskills National Championships Food and Beverage category against the best up-and-coming tradespeople.
Brandi Burnett (17) aced the three-day competition, held at the Sydney International Convention Centre from June 2 to June 4.
Over 400 competitors from across the country competed in 50 trade and skill categories.
Brandi, who is Pinjarra Senior High School head girl and employed by Pinjarra Bakery and Patisserie, stunned judges with her skills and put the Peel region on the map.
Brandi earned her place at the championships after a strong performance at the 2017 WorldSkills Australia Regional Competitions.
“I’m very grateful to WorldSkills Australia for this opportunity, and to the South Metropolitan TAFE Beaconsfield lecturers and my school,” she said.
WorldSkills Australia chief Brett Judd said the organisation was committed to nurturing and developing the skills of young Australians into the future.
He said events such as the trade competition, highlighted the diverse opportunities available to those pursuing a trade or skill.
