UPDATE:
WA Police Acting Deputy Commissioner Paul Steel has defended the actions of officers who shot a man who was advancing at them with a knife near Mandurah in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The man died a short time later at Peel Health Campus.
Mr Steel said he was confident the two police officers involved, a male sergeant and a female constable, acted within protocols and their training.
"Based on the information I have to date there is nothing that causes me concern," he told reporters.

A police statement said South Metro Response officers were patrolling the area last night following reports of a man acting suspiciously.
Police located the man armed with a knife in Rod Court at about 12.20am.
“The man advanced towards an officer, ignoring requests to drop the knife,” the statement said.
“Officers discharged their tasers and when these proved ineffective, discharged a firearm.”
Police administered CPR on the man at the scene, before St John Ambulance conveyed the man to Peel Health Campus, where he died from his injuries.
The identity of the man has not yet been revealed.
Detectives from the Homicide Squad and Internal Affairs Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A large area has been sectioned off by police, including the Pines Restaurant and Rod Court.
