PFNL 2018: Falcons women pick up first win with dominant showing against Dwellingup | photos

The Falcons weren’t phased by the road trip up the hill or the dour weather at Dwellingup Recreation Reserve, as they conquered the Razorbacks 1.3 (9) to 9.11 (65) with a full four-quarter effort.

Souths looked ready to roll early when they dominated time in forward half across the opening term.

Stacey Teariki got the party started with the day’s first goal coming off a sweet set shot, and Keely Rutherford rewarded her solid form in the opening term with the next major.

Jessica Hunnam put in a terrific display playing out of position in the ruck, and her efforts played a key role in helping the Falcons escape to a three-goal buffer at the first break.

April McPherson showed her strong first game was no fluke with another gritty performance, and her efforts early in the second helped Souths pile up their fourth and fifth goals through Rutherford and Jacinta Rose Rees.

It was a bleak outlook for the Razorbacks as they stared down the barrel of their sixth consecutive quarter without a goal, but a booming boot into their forward 50m arch gave them the opportunity needed to break the drought.

Tennelle Hamdorf found herself running into an open goal, and was able to soccer the ball to her advantage before making history with her side’s first ever goal in the PFNL Women’s.

Her celebration was befitting that of an inaugural goal, but unfortunately it did little to change the result of the match.

Teariki was outstanding for the remainder of the match, booting another goal to kick off the third quarter and playing a vital role in helping Souths to another three.

The rain began to pour in the second half, but it couldn’t dampen the celebration of the Falcons who stormed to their first win.

Next week will see the Falcons front up against Baldivis, while Dwellingup take on Pinjarra.
