Over 80 Murray kindergarten children recently joined thousands of eager participants across the country, for the 2018 National Simultaneous Storytime event.
Hosted by the Murray Library, the children together with their teachers and several parents, gathered at Pinjarra Civic Centre for the reading of the Australian children’s book Hickory, Dickory, Dash written by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood.
According to shire president David Bolt, the event was a popular, well-supported inclusion on the Murray Library calendar, and unified the resource centre with libraries, schools and childcare centres across Australia.

“Each year library officers look forward to hosting young readers, to promote the enjoyment and an increased uptake, of reading,” he said.
National Simultaneous Storytime which this year entered its 18th successive year, is run annually by the Australian Library and Information Association as part of Library and Information Week.
The initiative aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
Mr Bolt reminded Murray community members about Murray Library’s event portfolio which includes a number of one-off and regular events for infants through to seniors.
“Regular adult programs include the Love to Read Café, Book Club and Colouring in for Adults, while mums and their tots enjoy Rhyme Time, storytime and Lego Club events.
“Registrations are also currently open for the Cleaning with Chemistry event, which takes place on Tuesday June 5.
“The free workshop will teach attendees how to keep a healthy home without toxic chemicals.”
