Local brewer and winery Cape Bouvard has taken home gold for their Thorny Devil beer at an international competition.
Created by Peter McAppion, Thorny Devil is a Mandurah-based beer brand that specialises in creating unique beers and ciders.
Mr McAppion said he was “stoked and very pleased” to have claimed two wins at the Australian International Beer Awards (AIBA) on May 17.
The brewery’s popular blonde ale kolsch and dark ale draught brought home the accolades in their respective categories.
This year marks the 26th anniversary of the AIBA awards, which saw 2178 beers from 359 different breweries enter the competition word wide.
Th local brewery has entered the competition for the past four years but this was the first time their beer had taken out top prize.
Mr McAppion said he entered five beers in this year.
He said the awards just cemented the brewery’s reputation in the minds of local beer drinkers.
Thorny Devil is on tap at various Mandurah restaurants and bars including Catch 22 and The Funky Mexican Cantina.
It’s also featured in venues across Perth and Rockingham, as well as appearing at special events and festivals such as Mandurah’s BBQ & Beer Festival and at the racing course Pinjarra Park.
Northbridge Brewing Company and Whitfords Brewing Co, which operate under the Beerland label, won the major prize at the AIBA in Melbourne.
