The Pinjarra Tigers made Stephen “Sharpie” Martin’s 200th game a memorable one when they romped to a massive win over the Mandurah Mustangs in front of a home crowd on Sunday afternoon.
Martin got to cap off his double-ton game with a pair of goals, but it’s likely he will remember it mainly for the 111-point drubbing his Tigers put on the Mustangs.
The reigning premiers were up and about from the get-go, smashing their way to a 20.19 (139) to 4.4 (28) victory.
They were on fire early when they blazed away to a five-goal lead in the first quarter, despite some inaccuracy woes.
Kieran May finished the day with six goals on the back of a productive outing in the forward 50m arch, and was up and about early when he bagged two in the opening term.
The Tigers had posted 11 scoring shots to two at the end of the first break, and by half time that had ballooned out to 19 to three as they blasted a path to a 51-point buffer with May bagging his third and fourth while Ryan Budd booted his second.
Martin’s first for the day came early in the third term and by then it was all Pinjarra.
Lloyd Padwick bagged three of his four in the second half as the Tigers stormed away to a win.
The Mustangs weren’t completely without bright spots, as Hamish Free continued his solid form and Stuart Puls snared two of their four goals, but it was an otherwise dour day for the red and white.
On the flip side, Martin was chaired off on the back of a booming victory, as recognition for his time with the Tigers.
All 200 of his games have come in the black and gold.
Next week the Tigers will look to keep it rolling when they drive south down the highway to take on Waroona, while Mandurah will front up against the in-form Rockingham Rams.
