A local non-profit organisation, focused on connecting troubled youths with support networks, is gearing up to host their inaugural suicide prevention day.
Pinjarra-based Homestead for Youth uses a family style recovery program that incorporates horses, cars, outdoor adventures and the arts to engage participants in their therapy goals.
The farm was foundered three years ago by Marty and Carla Fadelli, with an aim to combat teen suicide.
The duo hope to raise much needed funds to help those struggling in the community and draw a crowd at the “choose life” event on June 9.
Ms Fadelli said suicide had become an “epidemic” in the region, and the day would create an opportunity for people to have important conversations on the issue.

She said funding would help keep the farm open, which would contribute to building the next generation of healthy teenagers.
“This is our first official open day. This is the first chance we’ve got to celebrate with the community,” she said.
“Moving down to Pinjarra we became a lot more aware of the epidemic of teen suicide.”
Attendees can expect to experience three smaller events condensed into the day.
A high tea will start the day at 10.30am.
An official opening will commence at 12:30pm, which will involve speeches from people who’ve undertaken or supported someone undertaking programs through Homestead for Youth.
People will also have the opportunity browse the wares and produce on offer at the market stalls, to tour the farm’s facilities, listen to live music and ride on tractors or ponies.
The day will finish with an onsite and online auction, which will commence at 2pm and is expected to be finished at 3.30pm.
Vouchers for Kmart and Coles, furniture, food hampers and handmade children's toys donated by Men in Sheds will be auctioned at the event.
“I think it’s good for the community to hear some hopeful stories of people that are surviving and doing really well,” Ms Fadelli said.
“Also the reality of what we need to do in the community.
“Just so people can really get an idea of the significance of what we’re facing and what’s happening in the community.
“Teen suicide isn’t something that we can ignore and we need to do something about that.
“I think that the community really understands that. It’s just good to remind us all.”
Organisers are still looking for volunteers, donations and community partners.
