More than 70 students from schools across the Shire of Murray will attend their local library to celebrate National Simultaneous Storytime on May 23.
The national event is run annually by the Australian Library and Information Association.
Each year, a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other venues around the country.

Locally, the free event will see children gather at Murray Library to listen to the reading of Hickory Dickory Dash by Tony Wilson and illustrated by Laura Wood at 11am on May 23.
In 2017, the event at Murray Library was dubbed a success with more than 130 students attracted to the session.
Organisers at the library are gearing up for another big year and have encouraged students to carry with their readings after the event.
The initiative is now in it’s 18th year and aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children’s book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the national curriculum for foundation to Year 6.
Last year 686,324 participants at over 6,129 venues, took part.
In 2018, the initiative will run as part of Library and Information Week.
