A gesture of support for a family member by Peel business owner Robyn Cook, has turned into a decade of fundraising for Cancer Council WA.
Mrs Cook started the Ladies Happy Hour at her families’ tyre service when her sister-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I started the Ladies Happy Hour for Amanda ten years ago,” she said.
“Rather than sending flowers over to her at the hospital, I donated the proceeds to Cancer Council WA.

“She was extremely proud that I was helping so many more people affected by cancer and when she passed away, I decided to keep the service running as long as women in the area kept using it.”
For five dollars, women in the Peel region receive a seven point tyre service, which includes an air pressure check, spare tyre check, engine oil check and of course, a tyre shine.
“We perform the service for free as the full proceeds are donated to Cancer Council WA to help other people affected by cancer and their families,” she said.
The Ladies Happy Hour runs between the hours of 8-9am from Monday to Friday and has been well received by the community.
“Initially, the service was available for one-hour on a Saturday but I had ladies lined out the gate,” Ms Cook said.
This year, Mrs Cook and her team at Peel Tyre Service will celebrate their first ever Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea by inviting women to come down to the shop for their seven point tyre check and a complementary cuppa on May 24.
“Over the years many women have used our service and we are sending out an invite to all of the ladies on our books to join us on this special day,” she said.
“We’ve also organised a special pink tools trolley which will be used to service the vehicles.”
This year, Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea will celebrate 25 years.
The national event is one of the organisation’s leading fundraising efforts.
Cancer Council hopes to recruit over 32,000 generous morning tea hosts and raise over $14 million nationally to help everyone affected by cancer right across Australia.
Mrs Cook and Ladies Happy Hour will host their Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea on Thursday, May 24 at Peel Tyre Service from 8am to 12pm on 19 Thornborough Rd, Greenfields WA 6210.
