Mandurah Mail football writer Justin Rake takes on the ups and downs of our Peel Football and Netball League in his weekly column ‘Rake’s Rave’.
Baldivis hasn’t wasted any time in letting their opponents know about their premiership claims.
They’re a squeaky clean five wins through five games in a run that has them sitting pretty already two games clear atop the ladder.
It’s also a run that now looks likely to reach double figures before it’s snapped.
Amazingly, the hardest part of the Brumbies’ fixture is already behind them.
In their first five matches they’ve topped the vastly improved and second-placed Rockingham twice, and they’ve also pipped the reigning premiers and flag fancies Pinjarra in a thriller.

Halls Head dished them up a tough Anzac Day clash in round four, and although they walked away with a blowout win over Waroona in round two, the long trip down the highway to play the Demons on their home deck is considered one of the tougher tasks in the league.
And after all that, they stand undefeated and have well and truly ticked off their pre-season goal of starting the season in hot form.
But now we have to start asking the question – when does the streak come to an end?
Looking ahead on the fixture, the answer could be further away than opposing teams care to admit.
The Brumbies are now staring into arguably the easiest run on their schedule, which I admit, sounds silly to say in a competition as closely contested as this year’s Peel Football and Netball League.
Their next four games come against what currently stands as the league’s bottom four, with a trip to Mandurah to face the Mustangs kicking off the run followed by games against Waroona, Centrals and South Mandurah.
Of those four, Centrals are the only one that really jumps out as a genuine upset chance, although the Mustangs, Demons and Falcons at their best could certainly challenge the league leaders.
Wins in all of them would see Baldivis to nine straight victories, and if they can top Halls Head the week after it will be a perfect 10.
At this rate, it’s hard to see a situation where the Brumbies aren’t this year’s minor premiers.
