People in the Peel region will have the opportunity to take part in a unique event that combines fitness and wine in November.
The event called Grapest 5k Run will take place at Drakesbrook Fine Wines in Waroona.
Held annually at vineyards around Australia since 2010, the event has been building its profile.
Event organisers Centaur Outdoor Events (COE) decided make the unique occasion a reality for the Peel region, with the help of Mandurah and Peel Tourism Organisation (MAPTO).

MAPTO chief executive officer Karen Priest congratulated the winery and the event organisers on bringing the idea to fruition.
“Thousands of people take part in Grapest events in vineyards around Australia each year but this is the first one for the Peel Region. It will showcase the beauty of the area and quality of local wines to a huge audience and bring in a lot of visitors,” Ms Priest said.
The Grapest 5k Run is described as ‘Australia’s best fun run with wine’ and will see participants complete a five-kilometre running course across a variety of terrain including grapevine rows and hills, while taking in the magnificent scenery of Drakesbrook.
As a reward at the end, there’s a meandering wine tasting walk section, called the waddle, with different varieties of wine to try at each station.
Then when the sun goes down the fun continues with live music.
Ms Priest said supporting events was an important part of MAPTO’s role in encouraging tourism to the region.
“Events give people a concrete reason to visit us. They bring in participants and their friends and family, help promote the Peel and add vibrancy to our region,” she said.
COE events director Peter Manning said he hoped the Drakesbrook event would be well received by participants.
“It’s a beautiful place and really captures what we want this event to be all about – a little fitness and a lot of fun – all while experiencing a stunning winery and vineyard. We hold Grapest runs across Australia and I have no doubt the event in Waroona in November will be just as successful as the others,” Mr Manning said.
Tickets for the Grapest 5k Run are available on the event’s website.
