The Mandurah Mail recently visited Greenfields Primary School to give students an insight into the life of a journalist.
Journalist and education reporter Carla Hildebrandt met with year one classroom and teacher Kathryn Boocock, who had recently been focusing on the process of writing a story.
Ms Hildebrandt shared how a story is reported, and how it ends up in the paper and online.
“The students were very interested in the news process,” she said.

“They were particularly curious about how to take photos and the camera and mobile phones we use to do that.”
She also spoke about the Mandurah Mail’s printing process and how the news landscape has changed in recent years by moving online.
Ms Boocock said the classroom enjoyed having a journalist visit, and said they were now working on story aspects that Ms Hildebrandt had suggested.
“We are working on creating an exciting title with a picture to grab the readers attention,” she said.
“Seeing Carla and her camera made it so much more real for the students.
“Hearing a journalist speak, from our local newspaper, was an amazing way for the students to connect their writing to the real world.”
