Over 300 people voted for the people’s choice prize in this year’s Mandjar Art Awards, which portrayed the melancholy face of a homeless man.
The award was presented to Chris Goldberg with her piece ‘Blue’.
Ms Goldberg said she was “thrilled” to receive both the People’s Choice and the Highly Commended award.
“The man depicted lived rough on the streets for a number of years, but happily he has since reunited with his family and is now living back home,” she said.

“Community art awards are such an important vehicle for both established and emerging artists to show their work, and on this occasion in particular it was great to see a broad range of work from artists at all levels represented.”
Art Gallery coordinator Helena Satonick said over 5000 people, who attended the exhibition at the Alcoa Mandurah Art Gallery casted a vote for their favourite piece.
She said there were 245 artworks in the exhibition and about 12,000 people attended the event.
Art Gallery Curator Gary Aitken said this had been one of the most successful years to date.
“The quality of work has been incredibly high, even more so than usual and is a real credit to the community,” he said.
“Chris’ beautiful work is well-deserved for the People Choice Award.”
