A new student run café has opened at Halls Head College, helping hospitality and tourism students prepare for the workforce.
Breakaway Café will be run by year 11 and 12 students, who will be making coffee, preparing food, ordering stock and meeting the fast-paced demands of running a business.
Café facilitator and teacher Luke Green said the business would make students more employable as one of the biggest industries in Mandurah was hospitality and tourism.

“It allows them to finish year 12 and already have their foot in the door, if they want to continue that pathway,” he said. “They will complete a certificate II in hospitality and in tourism over two years.”
Mr Green said the café was designed “off the back of the students”. “They built the logo and name. Really, it’s he students who have started and done it all,” he said.
At this point, the café is only open to staff at the college, but Mr Green said it could be open to the general public as soon as June this year.
