Canning MP Andrew Hastie has welcomed the announcement of former Peel Development Commission board member John Erren to the position of chairman of Peel Regional Development Australia (Peel RDA).
“John Erren is a great choice for the RDA chair,” Mr Hastie said.
“John has experience in the private sector, local government, and with community organisations.
“He’s a passionate local, and I have no doubt that he will be a fierce advocate for the Peel region.”
Regional Development Australia (RDA) is a national network of 52 committees made up of local leaders who work with all levels of government, business and community groups to support the economic development of their regions.
Mr Hastie said it was essential to respond to the Peel region’s growing population while respecting its rural character.
“Over recent years Peel region’s population has exploded, however we have maintained a definite rural character,” he said.
“We need careful planning that invests in public infrastructure like roads, rail and telecommunications.
“John understands this and will be a passionate advocate for the cause.”
RDA committees play an important role in facilitating economic development in the regions, and the Australian Government supports their role in growing our economy.
The national RDA network recently commenced operating under a new charter requiring committees take an active and facilitative role in their communities.
The charter will focus RDA on growing strong and confident regional economies that harness their competitive advantages, seize economic opportunity, and attract investment.
