The Dawesville RSL sub-branch was recognised for their outstanding contribution to veterans and the community at the annual RSL WA Australia Day medallion presentations at the City of Belmont RSL sub-branch on Wednesday, January 31.
Dawesville president Colin Gibson was honoured on the day, receiving the certificate of achievement and engraved medallion from RSL WA state president Peter Aspinall and Minister for Veterans Issues Peter Tinley.
Mr Gibson has served the Dawesville RSL as president for three years and was instrumental in many of the community initiatives spearheaded by the group.
The local sub-branch conducts their Anzac Day dawn service each year at the Dawesville Foreshore Memorial on Estuary Drive, followed by a free traditional “gunfire breakfast” at the Port Bouvard Recreation and Sporting Club.
They also support local schools’ Anzac Day services as well as the distribution of poppies for Remembrance Day each November.
