Mandurah's young local heroes nominated into the 2017/18 Western Australian Young Achiever Awards

Four Mandurah locals have been nominated into the 2017/18 Western Australian Young Achiever Awards, for their hard work and dedication to their community. 

Bonnie Beal, Brandon Carter, Damien Martin and Kellee Aberg were acknowledged for the awards that recognises high-achieving young achievers from across the state.

The awards also acknowledge, encourage and promote the positive achievements of all young people throughout WA, up to and including 29 years of age as of  December 31 each year.

Ms Beal and Mr Carter have been nominated for the Scott Print Environment and Sustainability Award, one of ten categories in the Western Australian Young Achiever Awards.

Erskine’s Mr Martin and Meadow Springs’ Ms Aberg were both nominated for The Diamond Club Online Achievement Award. 

A drama teacher, Ms Aberg most recent project has been to promote body confidence with storytelling and comedy in a Fringe Show. 

Ms Aberg and her friend from Geraldton Rosie Sitorus created a  show called Fat Girls in Bike Shorts to spark debate about body image.

Mr Martin is the founder of the quirky social media presences of Damo vs The World, which is gradually climbing the internet ranks with short, punchy, funny videos. 

Mr Martin Carter has made a point of addressing mental health issues in his community.

A video detailing the issues people his age face when it comes to mental health and suicide, gained significant attention and prompted him to continue to advocate for the issue.

Nominations were sought in the following categories:

  • School Drug Education and Road Aware Health and Wellbeing Award
  • Scott Print Environment and Sustainability Award
  • WAFarmers and Rural Bank Agriculture Award
  • Masonic Care WA / Freemasons WA Community Service and Volunteering Award
  • Catholic Education Western Australia Young Leadership Award
  • The Coffee Club Arts and Fashion Award
  • Surge Fitness Sports Award
  • WFI Insurance Small Business Achiever Award
  • The Diamond Club Online Achievement Award
  • First National Real Estate Innovation Award

Judging for the awards will take place on March 22. 

Finalists will be presented and winners announced at an Awards Gala Presentation Dinner at Pan Pacific Perth on May 26.

All nominees who are able to attend the Awards Dinner will be presented on stage with a framed certificate in recognition of their achievements.

Category winners will each receive a $1,000 Bartercard account, $1,000 cash and a magnificent trophy.

One of the ten category winners will be chosen as the Western Australian Young Achiever of the Year and will receive an additional $1,000 Bartercard account, $1,000 cash and a state trophy.
