They say laughter is the best medicine. The Vestal Virgins and Dads Army prove that theory.
The Mandurah residents, who met whilst exercising at the gym about ten-years ago, spend most mornings together at the Mandurah Recreation Centre, laughing their heads off at one another’s jokes.
The exercise and social group swim, meet for coffee, go on holidays and celebrate birthdays.
Member Ray Hinde said it kept everyone motivated to exercise, knowing they would have a coffee with their friends after.
Two inspiring stories emerged when the Mandurah Mail spoke to the group.
Member Wayne Abott previously exercised in the swimming pool walking lane because of a back injury, but now swam 42 laps per session.

Another member, Jan Hill, started swimming after a heart attack in 2002, then joined the group and had been with them ever since.
The members all agreed it was worth going to the recreation centre on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to see their friends.
