New figures are out, and unemployment has seen a significant decline in Mandurah.
While Mandurah’s still listed in the top 15 regions with the highest jobless rates, unemployment dropped from 11.2 per cent to seven per cent in 2017, according to a report issued by Commonwealth Securities, also known as Commsec.
That’s a whopping 4.2 per cent drop.
The report released by the nation's largest discount stockbroking firm operated by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia on January 25, highlighted the “winners and losers” of unemployment in 2017.

Mandurah bucked the trend of many other regions listed in the report, with hefty increases for many areas, particularly on the east-coast.
One of the hardest areas hit was the Coffs Harbour-Grafton region, which jumped from 3.3 per cent to 8.7 per cent.
The report, written by senior economist Ryan Felsman stated that the Mandurah region had benefited from job-creating projects such as the Dwellingup National Trails Centre and Quambie Park aged care expansion.
The multi-million dollar Dwellingup National Trails Centre, anticipated to be finished in mid-2018, will then allow for the Dwellingup History and Visitor Information Centre to be extended and transformed into a tourism hub.
Various positions will be required to manage the centre’s new skate park, pathways and signage, basic amenities, pump park, additional barbecue, picnic and parking facilities, adventure playground and entertainment stage.
The significant decline in the jobless rate in Mandurah was recorded from December 2016 to December 2017.
“Around three quarters of the new jobs added over the past year are full-time in the tourism, health care, retail, education and construction industries,” Mr Felsman’s report stated.
“Towns, cities and suburbs across the country have benefitted, especially Mandurah in Western Australia and the NSW Far West.”
The news comes ahead of major shopping centre Mandurah Forum’s final jobs fair.
