A 23-year-old man was hospitalised in the early hours of Saturday morning following a fight in Smart Street Mall.
A police spokesman said the fight happened about 2.30am, December 23.
He said a number of people were involved in a verbal and physical altercation in the mall, which is in Mandurah’s Central Business District.
It is alleged that during the fight a man was knocked to the ground.
But while he was on the ground, he was further assaulted.
The 23-year-old victim was rushed by St John Ambulance to Peel Health Campus with facial injuries.
A 27-year-old man from Halls Head was arrested at the scene and has been charged with:
- Disorderly Behaviour in a Public Place
- Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm
He is due to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on January 10, 2018.
On Saturday morning, Mandurah Police took to social media to call on the public to come forward with images or video of the fight that may have been recorded by passers-by on their mobile phones.
“Were you out in Mandurah last night?” police posted to Twitter on Saturday morning.
“There was a fight in Smart Street at 1.30am, were you there? Did you see it? Did you film it on your mobile?”
Investigators have not said whether anyone was injured in the incident.
